The magnificent skyscrapers stand tall juxtaposed against the beaches along Lake Michigan's shores. For a huge city, Chicago is fairly user friendly, too, with the "El" (elevated train), and the lakeshore Museum Campus, home to Soldier Field, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum and Adler Planetarium.
There's much more to love: the Willis Tower Skydeck, a free zoo in Lincoln Park, the touristy Navy Pier, Wrigley Field and of course, great public golf. When the PGA Tour comes to many cities, it snuggles up to a private club. Not in democratic Chicago, where Cog Hill's famous Dubsdread -- called simply the No. 4 course at Cog Hill -- plays host to the BMW Championship.
Chicago's public course scene doesn't deliver the all-world course that Jacksonville (Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass), Milwaukee (Straits Course at Whistling Straits) and San Francisco (Pebble Beach Golf Links) use to attract players from around the world. Instead, Chicago's public scene is deeper and more varied. Dubsdread, in Lemont, 30 minutes south of downtown, is a classic course with deep pit bunkers redesigned by Rees Jones.
Another Lemont course worth exploring is Ruffled Feathers, a Pete and P.B. Dye design. In Wheaton, the 27-hole Cantigny Golf Club, designed by Robert Packard in 1989, boasts an active youth academy that has groomed thousands of future players. The course's claim to fame is a bit weird -- a bunker in the middle of the ninth fairway of Cantigny's Lakeside Course looks like comic strip crime fighter Dick Tracy -- but it's an excellent test of golf that hosted the 2007 U.S. Amateur Public Links championship.

China overseas equipty capital markets
A total of 136 companies launched their initial public offerings (IPOs) on China's A-share market during the first five months of this year, according to statistics by Thomson Reuters.
The IPOs raised a total of $22.13 billion, down 19.5 percent from the same period last year. The total underwriting of the top 20 book runners (lead underwriters) reached $17.95 billion, accounting for 81 percent of the total.
Guosen Securities Co, Pingan Securities Co and Essence Securities Co ranked at the top of book runners for China's A-share IPOs in terms of funds raised. Guosen Securities raised $2.56 billion (11.6 percent of market share), Pingan Securities raised $1.91 billion (8.6 percent) and Essence Securities raised 1.64 billion (7.4 percent).
China's total A-share equity and equity related financing reached $35.43 billion, down 8.2 percent from a year ago. The financing involved 192 deals, 19 more than last year. According to Thomson Reuters' rankings (in terms of funds raised), the No 1 book runner was Guosen Securities Co, responsible for raising $3.04 billion and accounting for 8.6 percent of the market share. Essence Securities climbed from No 18 in last year's ranking to No 2 this year with $29.82 billion in proceeds (8.4 percent of market share). China Merchants Securities was No 3 with $29.61 billion.
Equity and equity related financing in the energy and power industries accounted for 33 percent of the total, more than any other industries. Consumer staples and high technology industries each accounted for 15 percent. Consumer products and services accounted for 14 percent. Two visitors of Dale Hill
Dale Hill has two visitors the week. One was from Britain who stayed on Tuesday, and the other one was from AA staying on Thurday.
Dale Hill, tried to ensure every guest has a great time. We have much confidence about our great product - we are lucky enough to have continued investment from Paul and Jennifer Gibbons - the owners of the Leaderboard group.
But I was a little bit nervous because, as always, these visits are unannounced as the inspectors stay as mystery guests. During their stay they try to test every service we offer, sometimes they even play the part of a difficult guest, but more often than not they appear to be a normal business traveller and they blend in.
Now, there is one person who is more nervous than me about an inspector's visit, and that is the chef, particularly with the AA inspectors as they operate the rosette programme which is an assessment of the quality of the food served. Dale Hill has one AA Rosette and a Silver Award from Visit Britain, and every time we have an inspection these awards are at stake.
I can see the chef walking through the reception out of the corner of my eye; he is anxiously looking in my direction to see if he can glean any information from my demeanour that the meeting is going well. However, we have not reached that point yet.
The first job is a walk around the property to check a random selection of rooms and the public areas to ensure there is consistency in all parts of the hotel.
Actually, the fact showed that we are fortunate to have a constant programme of refurbishment and redecoration, and since the last inspection the TVs have been upgraded, all the bedrooms have been re-painted, the beds now have duvets, the hotel's outside has been re-painted, and the biggest improvement of all - the works on the drive and car park have been started. Son Vida Golf, opened in 1964, the Son Vida golf course is the oldest on the island of Majorca and with its stunning views across the Bay of Palma, is an absolute delight to play on. Renovated in 2001, much of the 18-hole course is hilly and covered in dense forest and although fairly short, it's not for the faint hearted!
